Why Carbs Matter
- Carnivores thrive on animal proteins and fats
- Excessive carbs do not suit carnivores with short digestive tracts
- Moderation is the key in dry pet food, often less in best
The Ratings Explained
A clear guide to carbohydrate levels in dry food.
- Species Appropriate (SA) – Up to 15% Net Carbs is closet to a natural prey-based diet. Not achievable in traditional dry food yet.
- Low Carb – 15% – 30% Net Carbs is much lower than most dry foods and aligned with a pet first approach.
- Medium Carb – 30 – 45% Net Carbs is common in many brands – leaning more towards cereal grains, tubers, vegetables and legumes.
- High Carb – 45%+ Net Carbs contain higher levels of cereal grains, tubers, vegetables, legumes and lower levels of animal proteins and fats.
